JS-102/202 New Testament Background

This course is a survey of the historical events in Judea from the restoration [536 bc] to the destruction of the second Temple [ad 70]. Through this course the 21st Century Christian can come to a better understanding of the place of the apocryphal books, of the Graeco/Roman cultural influences of the day, and of the Jewish religious and cultural scene in the first century. This course provides the necessary background to understand the days of our Lord Jesus Christ upon this earth, to understand how the disciples thought, and to understand how those who came into contact with the Messiah thought. Such a background is vital to a full understanding of the Gospels. [15 audio lectures] - Level 3 credit only - may be audited.
